Psalm 71:2—Deliver me in thy righteousness and cause me to escape:  incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

The Only Escape From Depression Is To Run To Almighty God!
People all too often try to escape in ways which end up as exercises in futility.

When you injure an arm, you automatically withdraw it, trying to keep other people from touching it.  You do the same thing emotionally.  When you’re hurt emotionally, you withdraw and try to insulate yourself, to keep other people from hurting you.  Eventually you withdraw from reality.

Alcoholics are trying to get in the bottle and escape the real world.  You can’t do it.  There is no answer in alcohol or drugs.  That is not the New Testament lifestyle.  If you have to take a pill, take the “gospill.”  It will give you’re the answers to life.

Some people try to escape depression by eating too much.  Sometimes when people get depressed or stressed out, they try to eat everything that’s in the refrigerator—every night.  You know, when you get saved and you give up “the world,” you give up drinking, you give up drugs... all you can do is eat, but gluttony and drunkenness are equally bad.

Exhibitionism is a way of trying to escape depression.  A child will begin to have temper tantrums.  I had two or three of those as a child.  I lost my temper, and my dad helped me find it.  Women will talk too much.  Men will gamble obsessively.  Teenage boys will drive recklessly or steal a car for a joy ride.  A teenage girl will become promiscuous.  Attempting suicide is a form of exhibitionism, an attempt to grab attention from family and friends.

The only place you can run to for relief from depression is into the arms of Almighty God.  He will save you!
