Matthew 5:16—Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon the teachings of the Redeemer of Mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent, our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”
U.S. Supreme Court 1892
Those words, uttered by our nation’s highest court a little over one hundred years ago, show that the Supreme Court once held the Word of God in the center of our country’s moral and political compass. Now, however, as the gavel falls in that same court, it does not hold that same Book in the esteem it once did. First the court turned its back on the Bible; now it turns its back on the United States Constitution. What lies ahead? Scripture has an answer for everything, but what most may not know is that the Bible even has clear and distinct positions on political issues. If we are to live our lives by the Word of God and obey all His Commands, then we must be acutely aware of what is said in the Word regarding the world today. Matthew 5:16 presents a profound truth that should be the clarion call for all Christians in America today—to let our light shine. Don’t curse the darkness; let our light shine now!
We can change our rotting society and restore it to what God intended. We, the people, in these United States have the responsibility to change anything in our society that destroys the moral foundations on which our nation was founded. Our first objective is to change ourselves and let our light shine as the ‘city on a hill that cannot be hidden.”
