In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus not only told His followers that they were the light of the world; He also said they were the salt of the earth. Salt is meant to season and to preserve. It is important for us to be the “salt” that seasons our communities with moral virtue as prescribed in the Word of God. It is equally important to take seriously the preservation function of “salt” by translating the truth into votes.
First we must understand that, as Biblebelieving Christians, our views and our political priorities will always be unpopular. Most people are not going to agree with us on everything. The Lord reminds us that the way to heaven is through a “narrow gate: and “there are few who find it.” Believers are often going to be outnumbered, and if we are to prevail we must stick together and each do our part to stand for righteousness. Because we are the minority, it is doubly important that each Christian register to vote and get involved in the political process.
Above all, it is critical that we not just register to vote but that we go to the polls and cast our vote. The only tangible way Jesus Christ is going to have a “voice” in each election for each follower to express that voice by means of prayerfully casting a ballot on the issues.
