Psalm 33:11
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations
When several generations share the same space, differences can create division that threatens our primary mission.
Churches have split over minor issues – the carpet color in the sanctuary, preaching styles, musical choices, etc. Those issues often boil down to preferences, a desire for one group’s wishes to prevail over another’s. So much energy has been diverted into quarrels and conflict. So much bitterness and anger have led to disagreements and discord. When it must be our way or the highway, we need to push the pause button.
Psalm 133 proclaims how good and pleasant it is for God’s people to dwell together in unity because it is there that God commands His blessing to rest. In order for us to fulfill the Great Commission – to reach the lost with the Good News – God knew that we would need to be united in mind, heart, and purpose. A house divided against itself will collapse in a heap.
As we pull together for His purpose, we may need to sacrifice our personal preferences for the sake of peace. Paul encourages us to practice humility, gentleness, and love towards one another as we work very hard to preserve the unity of the Spirit because He will tie us together with peace.
We choose unity. We choose peace. We choose His purpose over our preferences.
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May God fill you with the power of His Holy Spirit to practice love and humility towards others. As you work to preserve the unity of the Spirit, may He command a blessing around you. May your every step be ordered and ordained by our Father for His glory…amen.
