It had many facets cut in it, and when the light hit it, the illumination was stunning.
The Lord asked me to come over and take a seat. I was so excited to sit in this chair that look fit for a queen. So wearing my best dress I went over and sat in the chair, trying to look poised and elegant. But as time passed, I became more and more uncomfortable. While the chair was gorgeous for sure, it was so hard it was impossible to remain seated. I looked at the Lord with pleading eyes, like a child wanting to be excused from the dinner table....
After a moment, the Lord motion towards another chair. It was large and overstuffed, the leather a little tattered and not much to look at. He said,”Would you prefer this chair?” I quickly agreed, and moved over to the old brown leather chair. I settled in, pulled up a warm blanket over my knees and knew the Lord and I would be able to have many long conversations here. It would be a great place to pray for family and friends, and big enough for my daughter to plop in my lap and tell me about her day at school. I knew it was a chair that would cradle me gently if I was sick with the flu. A place to relax and have movie marathons on cold rainy days. A place I could sit and plan for the future with the Lord....
The Lord gently whispered in my ear, “Everything that glitters is not gold!” Be careful when you run after wealth and fame. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and to lose his soul? (Mark 8:36). It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, then for a rich man to get into heaven. There was a young man who inquired,”Lord what must I do to truly be your follower?” Jesus answered, if you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions (Matthew 19:21-22)....
What must you do to follow Christ today, what is he asking you to sacrifice? It may not be money, it might be your time, your schedule, your right to be right, food, your phone or even your title or position. Whatever it is trust the Lord with it today. Your life will never be the same....
Are you willing to do it, if your only reward is to hear: WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT, WELL DONE!
