Mark 9:23
Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes'

Jesus Himself said that if we can believe, everything becomes a possibility. As we ask for the things that we need from God, we have a responsibility in this equation, too. If we can believe, all things are within our grasp. If we can hang on to hope, we can receive. If we can keep the faith, we will find the answer.

As Christ-followers, we sometimes stumble over this obstacle. We stop believing and begin to endure. We stop believing that the situation will improve, and we simply endure the circumstances that trap us in their grip. We stop believing in a better government and endure the flawed machine that is now in place. We stop believing for better schools and send our children to the institutions that exist.

The temptation is to stop believing that the church can make a difference. We stop believing that the Gospel has the power to change the world. We stop believing that God has the ability to improve our emotions, our relationships, our health, or daily lives. We stop believing in the promises of God as alive, true, and available to us. We have laid down the weapons of our faith. We have lost our fighting spirit.

Stir up your faith again! Throw off the apathy that threatens to suck you into the undertow. Bolster your belief in our mighty God. Do not hope that God might answer your prayer; believe that He inclines to hear your slightest whisper and then dispatches a response before the words have left your mouth. Do not hope that an answer may emerge from the fog of confusion; trust in Jesus as the Answer to every question, the Way Maker, and the Mountain Mover! All things are possible to them that believe.

Do not just believe that God can – declare that God will! Declare that His blessings are alive. Declare that His words are true. Declare that He is the Answer to every conundrum. Believe that He is rising up on your behalf. Believe that He is coming to your rescue. Believe that He defends you in the fight. Believe that His generosity is coming your way. Because if you can believe it, God will do it!

Blessing:

Heavenly Father, I confess that I am sometimes afraid and tempted to doubt when I am overwhelmed by circumstances that I cannot change. I am tempted to stop believing and simply endure. Jesus, stir up the embers of my faith and my belief that nothing is impossible, that I can do all things through Christ Who gives me the strength and ability. Help me to partner with You in the equation: my need plus my belief equals Your freedom to do the impossible for me. In Your name, I ask these things believing…amen.
