When my oldest niece was born, I was with her parent in the hospital. Where she laid in the baby's court, I stared at her as I wondered who she resembled.
I concluded that she resembled her maternal grandfather judging from the shape of her face. Like I did, other people said she resembled this or that person.
But each time her father looked at her, he beamed! Although all he saw was a little red skinned creature with tiny hands and legs, yet there was a likeness, a sense of familiarity that "this is my child". Same way, a newly saved believer may certainly not look like God on the outside but deep within him is a deep sense of being like Him. The host of heaven look like him and recongnizes him as a member of God's family because a resemblance of the Godhead is rooted in him/her.
God behold him as His own and the more he beholds himself in the reality of redemption, the more the identity of divinity is expressed in him. This is true sonship! Hence, any definition of yourself outside redemption is a shadow of the true picture. Believers are to embrace the real picture and quit pursuing the shadows.
As you go through each day, be constantly reminded of your sonship identity in Christ and live accordingly.
"Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy." Ephesians 4:22-24(NLT)
