The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.
God Gave To Moses The Words That Aaron, The High Priest, Should Speak To Bless The People.
Once when Jesus was teaching, He stopped in the middle of His teaching to bless the children. The Bible says, “He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:14). If Jesus blessed the children, why don’t we? What did He say when he blessed them? I’ll tell you what He said. He said what was in Numbers 6, and anything else that he desired to see come to pass in the life of that child.
The last thing Jesus did on this earth was to lift up His hands and pronounce a blessing as He departed into heaven. “And He led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up His hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven” (Luke 24:50-51).
The point is that imparting the blessing was His first and last priority. The first thing Jesus did in His ministry was to bless, and the last thing Jesus did on this earth was to bless. If He is our example, why don’t we do it?
St. Paul understood the power and the purpose of the blessing. Every book he wrote begins with a divine blessing. He understood that in his spiritual authority as apostle he could speak a blessing upon the readers. Read only one of Paul’s writings and it begins something like this, “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” That’s a blessing!
