In The Beginning by John Hagee
Genesis 2:23
And Adam said: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man’

In the beginning, Genesis tells us that God created light, the sky and sea, the land, the sun and moon and stars, and all living things. He spoke, and all things came into existence. He declared it all good.

On the sixth day, God formed a man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils. God made him a living being. At the end of the sixth day, He looked around at all the things He had created and declared it “very good.” On the seventh day, He rested.

In short order, though, God declared, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:18). After bringing all of the animals to Adam to be named, they recognized that no other living being existed that was a complementary companion for Adam. So, God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and He took a rib from his side and formed the woman, Eve.

This world that God created does not work well, does not function properly, does not exist as it should without the presence of a woman. God created a man with a specific role and responsibilities. God created a woman with specific roles and responsibilities. Neither is more important than the other. Neither subsists without the other. Ephesians 5:23 proclaims the husband as “head of the wife.” Some have taken that to mean that the man is in charge. Not so!

Can a head function without a body? Can a body function without a head? If the head is dysfunctional, does it not impact the body? And vice versa? When both work together, side by side, merging their unique strengths, this God-created plan comes together perfectly. Bringing their differences, the sum of the parts into a beautiful whole. Neither inferior, neither less-than…both as God created.

Blessing:

Heavenly Father, help me to embrace who You created me to be. Help me to not deny who I am or strive to be something that I am not. I submit to the unique purposes and plan You have for me. In Jesus’ name…amen.
