Words Have Power
In Genesis chapter 31, there is a story about a husband who pronounced the death sentence on his wife.  As Jacob and his wives and children prepare to return to Canaan, Rachel steals her father Laban’s idols or “household gods.”  Laban comes chasing after them and Jacob, not knowing that his wife had stolen the idols, said, “With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live” verse 32.  It was curse of death.  Did it happen?  Yes.  Genesis 35:16 says Rachel died in childbirth, while in the prime of her life, according to the curse placed on her by her husband.

The point is this:  Father, you are the spiritual authority in your home.  Be careful what you say about your wife.  Be careful what you say about your children or to your children.  You curse your son or your daughter when you say something like, “you’re dumb,” or “you’re stupid.”  You have just spoken a curse over your daughter or son.  In effect, you’re saying, “You don’t have the ability to learn.  You will be a remedial student.  You will be insecure and a guaranteed failure from this day forward because of my toxic mouth.”  When you say, “You’ll never amount to anything,” you have just cursed your child’s ability to succeed.  You have just destroyed their financial future and their ability to earn a living for their family.  Life and earth are in the power of the tongue.

The ability to speak is a Godgiven ability, designed so that you may praise the Lord.  But you can take your tongue and murder someone’s character, destroy their good works and assassinate their ministry.  God calls you an accuser of the brethren, and you will one day stand before God and give an answer for every word you have ever uttered.
