Quit Trying To Be What Other People Want You To Be, And Dare To Be Who God Made You To Be!
I want to say this to those of you who are single, and you’re looking for that perfect someone. Let me tell you, he or she does not exist. Let me continue to rain on your parade by telling you that anyone can be wonderful for three hours on Saturday night—the real person is home in a cage, locked up. And that’s the one you’re going to meet when you get married.
I hear people say things like this all the time when they’re about to get married: “Oh, I’ll change Leroy.” No you won’t. If Leroy won’t let God change him, he won’t let you. Men say, ”Oh, I’ll see to it that Lulu changes.” No you won’t Lulu will hurt you partner.
Why do people in relationships play roles? They play roles so the other person will like them. It’s actually emotional suicide, but that’s what people do all the time.
Why is it emotional suicide? Because that person is going to change. The person you’re playing the role for is going to change his or her mind about what they want you to be. And then you’re going to have to play another role. And then another, and then another. And somewhere down the road of life you’re going to lose contact with somebody that’s very real to you—yourself.
Quit trying to be what other people want you to be, and dare to be who God made you to be. And be happy being that, because the lack of honesty between two partners in a relationship is a communication killer.
