The Feast of Repentance by John Hagee
Hebrews 12:14 - “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”

In ancient Israel there were seven feasts. Yom Kippur was the feast of repentance among the Israelites. During this celebration two goats were brought to the high priest. The first goat was slaughtered to forgive the sins of the priest because God demands holiness from His children, starting with the leaders of His people.

The priest who was presenting the offering had to be made pure before he could even ask God for forgiveness on behalf of his congregants. Then the high priest put the blood of the first goat in a bowl and dipped his fingers in it, placing some of the blood on the head of the second goat. The second goat became the scapegoat, the one that symbolized God’s forgiveness of Israel’s sins.

Jesus was our scapegoat, dying on the Cross in our place. He also took the place of the first goat as He redeemed us from our sin. God placed the blood on Jesus’ brow, and with the Son’s words “It is finished,” our sin was buried in the deepest sea, never to be remembered again. Jesus paid it all.
