John 10:27
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
A book is objective; it is the very same every time you read it. But the Word of God is alive. A living thing is constantly changing. The amazing thing about the Word is that while what is inside doesn't change, it changes what is inside of you…for the better. As you read the Word and apply it to your life, you become a better wife, a better husband, a better student, a better employee. Whatever you are doing, as you begin to do it "as unto the Lord," you become a shining beacon of light in an otherwise dark world.
You can hear the voice of the Lord very clearly when you apply the words found in Scripture--as a son knows his father, a servant knows the king, a sheep knows the shepherd.
Once when I was in Israel, I saw a watering hole that was packed with sheep from one side to the other. I knew there was no way those sheep were ever going to separate and head back to the assigned pasture with the shepherd that brought them. It was impossible to tell one animal from the next, they were so tightly woven into a woolen mass. Then the shepherds began to whistle...and each sheep lined up and headed back with the master who brought them to the watering hole.
"My sheep know My voice," Jesus said. If God whistled to get your attention in the crowd, would you be able to hear Him?
