Stand Up by John Hagee

First of all, you say that you are against abortion, but what do you do to aid young girls in trouble? What does your church do?

Stand Up by John Hagee
Proverbs 13:13
He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.
Stand Up

“Suppose a Nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only Law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited…What a paradise would this region be!"  (John Adams 1756 America’s Second President)

First of all, you say that you are against abortion, but what do you do to aid young girls in trouble?  What does your church do?  Do you provide counseling and hope for the future?  Do you offer food, medical, and financial support?  Or do you merely cavil against teen pregnancies and judge those who are in such a predicament?  When the church offers no alternative, where else are these girls supposed to go but to the world?  What are you doing to make a realistic difference in the lives of hurting people facing difficult choices in their own personal abortion debate?

Regarding the issue of homosexuality, the Bible is crystal clear that this act is an abomination to the Lord.  In Leviticus 20, the Lord discusses punishments for sin with Moses.  Leviticus 20:13 records the Lord’s view of homosexuality:  “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable.”  Yet why do we act as though homosexuality or lesbianism is worse than cheating, stealing, being a murderer or hypocrite?

AIDS patients are dying painful, impoverished, isolated deaths because they chose a homosexual lifestyle; yet Christians by and large have not figured out that compassion toward sinners, in their time of need, does not equate to condoning their sin.  Jesus is tough on sin, but tender toward the sinner.  He died for all of us.

Welfare reform has been a major voting issue ever since LBJ’s Great Society.  Put very simply, this “reform” is nothing more than taking money from a man who will work and giving it to a man who will not.  Since that time, over five trillion dollars in government aid has been paid out to remove poverty form our society.  Despite this, the percentage of those with incomes under the poverty level has been greater since liberal government activists started taking money from the pocketbooks of those who were working and giving it to those who refused employment.
The welfare program in this country has shattered the family structure of those in the lower income brackets and has virtually guaranteed generational dependence on the dole.  Today millions of Americans are dependent upon welfare.  Although the welfare program has amounted to nothing more than a moral and economic morass, the Church cannot close its eyes to the truly needy who reside in our midst.  While working citizens should not be obligated to finance the lifestyles of those who can work but won’t—one cannot assume that everybody in dire economic situations falls in that category.

Paul laid out a rule stating, “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”  Similarly, James wrote, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.  If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?”  When we debate issues like welfare reform, abortion, or homosexual rights, we must remember that those who lack money, have immoral lifestyles, or find themselves pregnant out of wedlock, are not our enemies.  Our battles are not with flesh and blood—we are fighting a spiritual war!
